Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter is proud to collaborate with the Department of Veteran Affairs as a member of the We Honor Veterans program. The program assists hospice organizations in recognizing and honoring veterans and their families.
Recognition Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter knows veteran patients have unique needs and has enlisted a series of programs and initiatives to best serve these brave men and women because Veterans Matter!
Admission and clinical teams work to identify all patients who are veterans to establish and meet their needs. Once a veteran patient is identified, our social workers will assist patients and families with navigating veteran benefit options, answering questions and will put in place a plan of care that recognizes and honors their service. Our care center staff is also identifying and recognizing veteran patients with flag pins, wreaths, veteran angels and poppies.
Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter is creating a veteran-specific resource guide. This guide will contain helpful contact information for local veteran service organizations so our veterans can be certain all of their needs are met.
Vet-to-Vet Volunteer Program
Veterans often have a special connection with one another and relate best to a fellow serviceman or woman. Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter is actively recruiting, training and assigning volunteers with a service background to our veteran patients to provide support in many forms because no one connects to a veteran like another veteran.
Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter is invested in our local veteran community. To that end we host, sponsor and participate in veteran-specific events and committees. Veteran outreach includes the annual Veteran Stand Down, “Honor Flight” documentary screenings, participation at Veteran Council meetings, sitting on the planning committee for the Purple Heart Dinner, hosting veteran teleconferences and much more.
Veteran Grief Groups
Currently Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter is hosting grief groups that are specific to veterans and their families’ bereavement needs. For more information, please call 910-796-7991.
As a symbol of our commitment to providing the best care for our veteran patients, Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter has created a veterans logo that will easily identify our veteran-based resources and programs. We are also developing a webpage that will outline our We Honor Veteran programs. We are proud to serve our veterans and currently feature local veterans in our Veterans Matter! media campaign.
