A Diamond Donor's Story

People donate to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation for different reasons. Many contribute to show gratitude for the assistance and support they received. Others give in memory of a special person in their life. Some donate to pay tribute and honor loved ones.

Carole Morrison has donated to our Foundation for three reasons. Through her gifts to our agency, she has joined the Diamond Donor Society (see page 11 for information on the Society.) Carole's husband Garry was 48 when he died in hospice care in New Jersey. Her father was served by a hospice in Albemarle. Carole's 92-year-old mother was a Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter hospice patient. Carole says hospice was there for her when she needed help at the end of Garry's life. He was able to die at home, not in a hospital. The hospice team gave support, provided medications and equipment, explained what was happening and what to expect, supported and cared for the entire family, and helped with funeral arrangements. Carole says the palliative care team works the same. When team members visit, you feel like you are the only patient and family they have. Carole recognized an opportunity when she learned about the Caring for Life capital campaign giving opportunities. She is creating a lasting tribute with a Bridge of Hope, one of three bridges that pass over the Heritage Garden waterway. Carole is dedicating the bridge to her two sisters, Jacquie and Montine. Carole says it is an especially appropriate donation because her sisters were her "Bridge of Hope" during Garry's illness. Carole says you don't ever get over grief, but you heal.

There are always blessings for what you have received. The Foundation is grateful to Carole for her continued support and feels blessed for having received her gifts.
