Foundation Trustees - Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation

History of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation

In 1984, shortly after the founding of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice agency, a dedicated group of volunteers interested in the perpetual support of the mission of this agency created the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Endowment Fund. This fund was created with the initial gift from the estate of Pickett H Taylor. In 2005 the Trustees of the Endowment Fund, decided they wanted to do more to support the agency and reorganized to become the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation.

The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation exists solely to raise the funds necessary to support the mission and work of Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter not covered by reimbursement sources, and programs and services that do not have a reimbursement source.

Since the Foundation’s founding in 2005, the Foundation has raised almost $2 million annually to support the ongoing operating needs to provide quality end of life hospice and palliative healthcare and LifeCareCenter programs, such as the bereavement program.

The Foundation has also initiated projects and fundraising for the ongoing operating support and capital needs of the agency. As a result the agency has been able to construct Angel House, a hospice care center opened in 2008 to serve Columbus and Bladen counties, in 2009 the agency headquarters the Phillips LifeCare & Counseling Center, and the Heritage Garden.

With the help of dedicated volunteers in Brunswick County, and a $1 million grant from the SECU Foundation, our Closer to Home capital campaign raised $4.3 million for the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick which opened July 2012. And to meet the demand, we have been granted a Certificate of Need from the state of North Carolina to add 6 beds to Wilmington’s Hospice Care Center Fales Pavilion. Construction is planned to begin in 2014 and be completed 2015.

Thank you for giving the gift of hospice. Thank you for inviting us into your hearts and homes and supporting the mission that allows Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter to provide comfort and care to your loved ones as they embark on life’s final journey.
