Most hospice patients are served in their home. If home care is not possible, patients can receive care in a hospice facility. Patients are admitted to a hospice care center for around-the-clock pain and symptom monitoring, for family members to gain caregiving skills or receive rest from caregiving, and if home care is not possible during the last days of life. Also, care centers serve as training centers for clinical students and offer educational programs on end-of-life topics.
Hospice Care Centers offer medical and respite care 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a comfortable, homelike environment when home care is not possible. Care Centers have private patient and family suites, courtyards, and comfortable living spaces – all designed to meet the needs of hospice patients and their visiting caregivers, loved ones, and relatives.
The Wilmington Hospice Care Center has 12 beds, and the Columbus County Angel House Hospice Care Center, six. When the Wilmington Hospice Care Center is full, three private rooms are available at Davis Health Care Center for patients who require more intense hospice care nursing services. Construction on our seven-bed facility in Bolivia is under way, and a June 2012 completion date is anticipated.
The Hospice Care Centers are staffed by a professional hospice team of physicians, registered nurses and certified nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and volunteers.
Patients are admitted to our Hospice Care Centers for around-the-clock monitoring, for family members to gain caregiving skills or receive rest from caregiving, and if home care is not possible during the last days of life.
